Prof. Jacek Rak is currently working as Professor and Head of the Computer Communications Department at the Gdansk University of Technology, where he has (co-)authored more than 100 publications (h-Index 20). Furthermore, he has participated in a variety of research projects on the design of resilient and dependable communication, has served on the Technical Programme Committees of several international conferences and journals, and had leading roles in various (inter)national conferences. He is a visiting PICAIS fellow at the Chair of Computer Networks and Computer Communications (Prof.Hermann de Meer), focusing on the disaster-resilience of interdependent networked systems.
The lecture will investigate the common scenarios for failures of network elements and provide their classification referring to the number, location, duration, and extent of failures. Next, it will focus on explaining the role of resilience mechanisms in providing an acceptable level of service delivery in challenging conditions. The later part of the lecture will analyze thepotential costs and evident benefits following the deployment of resilience mechanisms. The final part of the lecture will comment on the major challenges to deploying resilience mechanisms in networks
The research colloquium will be held in English. All members of the University of Passau and interested members of the public are cordially invited to the event.
