ZIM account for external (non-enrolled) doctoral and postdoctoral students

Please note: As of 2026, external ZIM accounts can only be issued to habilitation candidates. Issuing external ZIM accounts to doctoral candidates is no longer possible.

ZIM account

External habilitation candidates can apply for a ZIM account, which enables them to use the computer network and virtual learning environments of the University.

We will be happy to set up an account with an associated university e-mail address for you as an external habilitation candidate. Please note the following information and fill in all required fields (*)

On a rotational basis, the username expires every mid-November and mid-May. For licensing reasons, we have to check twice a year whether you are still a member of the University in order to be able to renew your username. External habilitation candidates will be contacted twice a year and asked for your current confirmation of supervision from their supervisor.

Before submitting, do not forget to upload your acceptance as a habilitation candidate.

Special features of the account

The accounts of external habilitation candidates are set up similarly to undergraduate/master's students' ZIM accounts but differ in the following points:

- The associated e-mail address has the format "given_name-family_name@uni-passau.de" (the names are separated by a hyphen).

- Sending e-mails from your university e-mail address is only possible via the web interface of the e-mail system. You cannot access protected IT resources and services externally via OpenVPN or eduroam.

By sending the form, you expressly consent to the processing of your data by the University of Passau for the purposes of the ZIM credentials application. The legal basis for this is art. 6(1)(a) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Your data will only be used for the purposes of ZIM account application and will be deleted at the next annual data deletion date. My data will not be submitted to any third parties. You have been informed of your rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), specifically art. 15 (right of access), art. 16 (right to rectification), art. 17 (right to erasure) and art. 18 (right to restriction of processing). I am aware that I have the right to withdraw my consent at any time by giving notice to the University of Passau.

In order to enable us to process your enquiry, we reserve the right to forward it to the relevant departments.
