Thesis starter grants from the Graduate Centre for doctoral candidates

In 2021, the University of Passau introduced thesis starter grants, a funding programme to support and offer financial security to particularly promising graduates as they transition towards doctoral study.

| Reading time: 1 min.

The grant is intended to give you the opportunity to plan the first steps of your doctorate within an initial period of six months and to prepare further funding for your doctoral project. To this end, the University will employ you as a graduate teaching/research assistant in an 0.3 full-time equivalent (FTE) position during this time.

Applying for a thesis starter grant could be an option for you if:

  • you are planning to study for a doctorate at the University of Passau and are, ideally, already in contact with a potential supervisor and
  • you are about to complete your master's degree or have recently graduated and
  • you are still looking for bridge funding to work out your doctoral project and acquire doctoral funding (doctoral fellowship or third-party-funded position)

Interested? Then contact the Graduate Centre for details on the eligibility requirements and application process and apply by 31 August.
